Photo Energy

Also known as Photonic Energy, this is the energy of light. on an all dark planet, this energy comes very rarely in generations. That’s not to say that many aren’t born with it, but to say that few choose to consider training in it. Those that do are usually the more powerful ones of the lot and often turn out rather powerful in the end.

A Photo Energy user can use energy in up to five different ways. Each way is very different from one another and those that are powerful enough can use all the ways, but this is very rare and those that can usually fizzle out before they make an real name for themselves. (The only well known Photo Energy user in all of history was Rose, but she was a Melaney so she had other abilities to go with her Photo Energy. Also, there was Meldo Demosa, but his energy actually killed him in the end so his name is rarely thrown around as a “hero” of this ability).

The Five abilities are as follows

1. Manipulation: This is the most powerful of all the Photo Energy abilities and allows the user to manipulate light in such a way as to create items with their mind of pure light. This is not only rare, it has only been seen three times through all of history. (The first was the God Ares, also known as Athgoniom, and his ability to alter the light around him in any way. Since he was never mortal, he is not considered a hero for the Photonic energy. His abilities were such that he could make weapons, armor, projectile weapons and even complex machines, but the more complex it became, the more focus it took from him. He was later defeated by Death Stalker and was never seen again. The second was Unthagor, the son of Athgoniom and his ability of manipulation was only slightly less than his fathers. He was killed by Gridlok at the battle of Cross Roads in the year 49 B.C. and it is thought that his death was what sparked the Great Melaney Wars, it is also thought that Unthagor may have actually been Athgoniom in disguise, but either way he was cut down by Gridlok. The Third and final was Bogliar Untha but he disappeared over one hundred years ago. His manipulation was close to that of his fathers and he was thought to be the one that would one day bring light to the probe, but he fought Gridlok in 12 B.C. and lost when Gridlok’s father, the Emperor, intervened in the fight. Bogliar was cursed and has wondered the probe ever since with shattered memories and abilities to reflect those memories. [Note: He and his two sisters, both share similar abilities])

2. Pulse – This allows the user to send large pulse waves from their body and pinpoint them at their opponent. Using this ability, the controller has such control over the energy as to pool it into their finger and fire it like a weapon. The blast will be equal to that of their energy attack, but there will be a backlash of the energy to the user. This backlash can be described as a person holding a shotgun and firing it with both barrels at the same time. The kick will jar the user and deal damage equal to 1/4 of the blast that was sent. Most users of this ability will wear special gear to ensure that they don’t take damage when they are using this ability. (Note: This ability draws all the light in a given area to the users. When this is done, torches, lamps, etc. will wink out and the user will be the only source of light in that vicinity. When the user fires their Photo Energy, the room around them will be plunged into darkness for a short time.)

3. Shock – This allows the user to send Photo energy into their hands, feet, face, etc. in shocking attacks that will deal massive amounts of damage to whatever they hit. The energy will deal its damage to whatever it is hitting, but will deal little to no damage to the user. Once Mastered, this ability may well be one of the most powerful, unarmed, abilities on the probe. Due to its nature, the damage dealt does the shock damage of the force leaving the body of the user, but also does energy damage from the heat of the energy. Both are usually equal in damage, making the opponent have no choice but to defend both in the attack. (Some of the shock users can get their energy so hot that it pierces armor in their attack. others can use this like a small candle on their hand without dealing damage to themselves.

4. Blast – Much like pulse, this ability allows the user to pool the energy into one place and the loose it violently at an opponent. Unlike pulse, however, the users does not take damage from the attack. The energy never actually enters their body and thus they can pool it and release it without bodily harm. Due to this, they can project that energy over vast distances for single attacks. They can also use this for short blasts that will pool and blast from their hands only. These blasts can vary in intensity, but have to be pooled before the attack can be made, making them slower that the pulse ability.

5. Imbued – Much like magic, the user of Photo Energy can imbue their body with the energy, basically bathing their bones, muscles, etc. in the energy. This can cause many problems for many races and usually this being has to be a mutant or born with natural defenses of the energy to stay alive more than a few months after this happens. This Imbuement allows them to constantly pull in Photo Energy in such a force as to be basically glowing all the time. This glow can be used as a force shield, weapon like that of shock, a blast like that of pulse (though without the backlash), or a Blast that will pool almost instantly. This user will be able to manipulate light on a massive scale and make things much more powerful than simple weapons and armor and they will have amazing control over the items they create of pure light. The items will be of pure light, however, and will glow in whichever spectrum the Photo user uses. (See Spectrum below). (It is believed that Athgoniom was imbued in light so purely that his bones were made of it. This is why he was weaker during the dark hours of the probe and much stronger during the light. Also, this is why he was so hard to kill.)

The Photo user will use different spectrums of light depending on the intensity of their own inner light. The spectrums are:

1. Golden – This spectrum is the most powerful of all the Photo users, but takes the greatest amount of focus to sustain their abilities. This user would be able to fire blasts that were the intensity of a Super Nova without pumping any extra energy into the blast. (Athgonom supposedly could fire blasts of an equivalent to 200,000,000 foe. (Which would be 2 million Super Novas. This is the power of the Gold spectrum at its peak).

2. Blue – This spectrum is very powerful and allows the user to extend their energy to a point of melting virtually any metal on the probe. It can also deal damage of amazing proportions. (The highest this has ever shown before becoming Golden was 100,000,000 foe in a single blast, but the user died with it. Due to the nature of the Blue spectrum, the user often takes damage equal to 1/4 that of which they extend. This is due to the fact that the spectrum has a blow back that will consume the user when it fires. This can be avoided through certain types of magical armors and wearable items, but always deals damage somewhere.)

3. Purple – This color is still powerful enough to consider the user a God, but has its own drawbacks as well. A Purple spectrum user will be able to deal damage of up to 50,000,000 foe in a single blast (Again, this is only at its peak before becoming Blue) but the purple magic deals its damage without much after effects. The Blue and Gold will melt things that are hit, will continue to pour fire over them and will all around destroy anything that gets in their path. Purple, however, fizzles out almost as quickly as the blast has been made. This makes it so that this player can deal damage without damaging the surrounding country side or whatever else might be around them. This also makes them very deadly because once they have fired a blast, there is no direct route to where they fired it from of destruction and devastation. Thus they can fire a blast of the energy and then move and it will be nothing but muzzle flashes to give away their location.

4. The most common spectrum is Red and it deals, at its peak, 1 Foe. However, the users of this energy can fire blasts that are just shy of silent and the light that fires them follows the stream, so if you don’t see them fired, then you don’t see their location at all. This spectrum needs very little focus and even less power consumption. Making this spectrum able to outlast the other three for length of fighting. What it lacks in power, it makes up for in longevity.

All Photo Energy users have to be wary and constantly on guard to not take the light from torches, candles, etc. If they are simply walking and not using at least one will point per round, they will eventually draw the energy out of every light in a place. In a land of perpetual night, this can be a very bad thing. Especially if you are trying to keep the fact that you use Photo Energy a secret

Note: Dark creatures will kill Photo Energy users on sight (See Dark Creatures.).

Note 2: Photo Energy users will have to release their power once a day if they continue to draw on the energies around them. If they do not release this power, the energy will build up and begin dealing them damage on a constant basis until the energy is released.

Note 3:  Photo Energy users can not use magic of any sort. Something within the energy keeps their cells from taking in the magics and thus they can not seem to control them. (There have been two exceptions to this rule. One was Athgoniom who could also use Yellow Magic and the other was Gothan the Great, who imbued himself with Blue Magic to try and live forever, but was cut down by Gridlok.)
