Scrying

Allowing the user to find virtually anything that they are looking for, this ability is incredibly helpful to those that take the time to master it. Many believe it to be a benign ability and not worth the time to master. Those that take the time learn quickly that this ability is much more powerful than anyone truly believes.

A Master Scry (as they are called) can see short distances into the future and be aware of many things that are hidden. Using this talent, the Scry can see what is around the next corner, if that chest is a trap, what will happen in the battle to come the next day. This talent can also be used to defend against other Scry’s by shielding those within a certain party width (usually up to fifty people in all).

To use this ability, the Scry must have concentration and the longer they are looking into the future, the harder it becomes to concentrate. Scrys can not work under stress very well due to the loss of concentration, or the over concentration that will take place. Due to this a true Scry will remove themselves from any stressful situation before trying to ply their trade.

A Master Scry can also, as stated before, find things that are hidden. This is where the amazing abilities of the Scry truly rest. If the scry has something of someone’s and wants to know a single question, they can often get the question answered, though it may take days or even weeks to gain the answer. One of the most powerful Scry’s of all time was Diluth Poluta and he was asked if the king of his nation would be assassinated by his brother. Diluth concentrated on a single scarf and asked when and where the owner of the scarf would meet his demise. It took a month for the answer, but he found it and actually traveled there by accident when he was looking for something completely different (That is how the scry works, often enough. Rather than telling an answer in words, it simply shows the user by bringing them to the place and having them “trip” over the answer.) Five years later, Diluth got word that the kings brother had staged an attack on the site and would have killed the king if not for Diluth’s warning. As it stood, the king got away without a scratch and he had his brother executed. Diluth was raised to a position of power within the castle. His family, today, still works directly for the kings of that land.

The Scry has a few quarks that a player must contend with. The first is that due to their ability to “find” things, they will react to questions around them and have a habit of leading themselves or others into the areas that will answer the questions. (Such as, if a player is trying to find a particular sword, the Scry will inadvertently push the group toward the sword, even if the players are not ready for the encounter.) Due to this, it is known that the Scry has a habit of “altering” the luck of those around them so that it works in the Scry’s favor. Sometimes this is for the better, but usually it is for the worst.

The second quark is that the Scry, when using their ability, will triple the amount of Stamina draw from their body. This is done automatically and can’t be countered by the user. If the players latent abilities kick in and they start Scrying, then everything they do during this time will cost them more and more stamina. Be careful that you don’t exhaust yourself and fall into fatigue.

Using this ability, Scrys can actually see the next attack of an opponent and avoid it within reason. Should the Scry get into a fight and need to use their abilities, because of the adrenaline, the Scry will not remove stamina at such a high rate, but this will only work for 10 rounds and then the Scrying will go back to stealing a lot of stamina again with every use.

Note: Scrys are the only players on the field that, when Scrying, can see every being of every spectrum. It is thought that only a Scry can see the fabled “Hide” of Hide and Seek, but it has not been proven since all of them that he has ever gone after have wound up dead before they could speak to anyone about it.
