The Precog, as they are called, usually train to be oracles or similar professions. This is another ability that the character has to be born with to be able to utilize completely. The Precog can see short to long distances into the future. The reason that so many of them speak in riddles, though, is because their sight shows future events in whirls of images rather than concrete images. Thus they see all the different choices that someone can take along with whatever they will actually take. This causes confusion and usually makes the Precog unsure of the path that will be taken. Thus the possibilities have to be narrowed before they can see which one will actually come to pass. Certain events, though, such as a massive earthquake, Tsunami, etc. will not matter of the choices the individual makes, but will always be in the vision of the Precog.
No Precog can see their own future, only those of the people around them. If a Precog is looking into their own future, the images will be blurry at best and will continually change as the choices in their own minds change. If they are looking at someone else that is within a party that they are part of, the moment the choices come down to that of the Precog, they will no longer be able to see what will happen. They may have a crystal image in their minds, but that image will be wrong. Therefore Precog should never head an expedition using their own abilities.
A Precog can use their abilities on traps in such a way that they simply turn on the precognition and leave it on to see any traps that they, or their party, might fall into. This works because they are not looking at themselves or their party, but at the traps that may, or may not, lay before them. Thus the Precog can tell that there is a trap, but not what the trap might be. They know only how to set the trap off and how to avoid it. If the floor has more than two traps in a single space, such as a trip line, a pressure plate and a second trip line just beyond the first, the Precog will only know of the trap that was tripped first and thus not see the other traps until they have gone beyond the first. Most traps are not setup in tandem like this, though, and rarely would be an issue.
A Precog can use their abilities in a fight to avoid being hit or hurt, but they have to look into their opponents future for less than ten seconds. When this is done the choices come in like a barrage and the Precog will begin to see blurry before images of the attacker. the after image is where the attacker is, and the before image is where they are going. Due to this, the Precog can fight single opponents very effectively, but more than one opponent will keep this from working and will actually hinder the Precog as they will see multiple images in multiple places and won’t be able to identify the after image. Thus it is rarely used and most Precog don’t get into the fighting unless they have no other choice.
The reason that Precogs don’t learn fighting skills very often, or learn to use weapons beyond the common, is because each time they get into duress, their abilities kick in and they can no longer control them directly. If a person attacks them, the Precog’s sight beings to work in such a way as to allow them to foreshadow what the attacker will do next. (We explained this above). Then, if there are more than one attacker, the Precog’s abilities will shut down for individuals and will move to the back of their mind to see the overall battle that they are in. This will cause them to have “Two-Minds” in that moment and will often keep their focus off the fight directly. Some have learned to overcome this with years and years of training, but most find it so disheartening that they simply use their abilities in non-combatant styles.
To say the Precog is unable to defend themselves, however, is something of a misnomer. The Precog is very powerful in their abilities and can use them against another person when needed. This ability, called “Forced Future Sight”, is extremely powerful and can be used in a single opponent or multiple opponents up to 10. What happens is the Precog starts their ability to see their future and then “broadcasts” it into the minds of those around them. Unfortunately, the Precog can not choose who to force their sight into and thus anyone in the area is affected. Those in the area of effect will see the worst future that they can imagine, where they chose all the wrong choices and made all the worst mistakes possible. This future will come to the victims with such force that it is all they can see. They will feel the emotions, feel the pains, feel the death of themselves. The will of the Precog is in direct association with the amount of damage the victims will take and thus can actually kill them. In most cases, it will incapacitate them long enough for the Precog to get away. The Precog, however, will take damage as well using this. The damage is equal to their will divided by 2 (This is the will they have at the time, not their base will.) They will fatigue after three rounds for three rounds. This allows them time to get away, but not enough time to simply kill all of their opponents. (That is, unless the opponent is a single opponent.)
Precogs are usually used as oracles and the like and as such train themselves to learn future events as well as they can. Due to this, they sometimes will step on the toes of beings such as Fate, Destiny and the Time Lords. These three entities will grow impatient with an Oracle that is powerful enough, they will begin to do things that unwind what one of these beings truly wishes to have happen. When this happens (usually this will be 1 vs. 1 on the dice) the beings will send an emissary to let the Oracle know they are treading on thin ice. If the Oracle continues their works and tries to stop what the beings have in place, they will call upon the God Slayers to come down and make their point. (These are the only three beings, other than Covent, that can actually call down the God Slayers, but none of them need the approval of the Kala. (See Kala, God Slayers, Fate, Destiny and Time Lords.)
