Crystal Clear: The Beginnings
“I am a Wobax, not a Lycan. Though I am a Lycan as well.” Krono explained, for the fifth time as they walked at an even pace. The large totem at his side kept pulsating to Caraess’ ears but he had learned to ignore it for the most part. They had been separated from the main body of their party and were all but lost in these caverns of this god-forsaken labyrinth of ancient artifacts all in glass cases and all with writing explaining what they were, but none in a language that either Krono knew or Caraess cared to figure out.
“What’s the difference?” Caraess asked from atop Krono’s right shoulder only inches from his face. His short dragon-like face moved only slightly as he spoke, but the thick fur around his neck moved as if he had just thrashed back and forth. His long ears bobbed slightly and the right one almost flopped as it moved with his “expressive” face. Caraess was only about an inch tall and looked like a toy on the great beast’s shoulder. He was wearing a small sack for clothing as he had lost his clothes a couple times throughout the voyage. His squeaky voice made the scene even more surreal.
They had been walking for a few hours now and Krono’s legs were beginning to recognize their own muscles. His long, wolf-like legs and reversed knees were growing tired of walking upright, but he dared not drop to the ground as that would drop most of the items he was carrying and a might force Caraess onto his back, which he was not willing to allow. His long hair, which covered most of his body, was matted in places due to their travels and the fact that he had not had a bath in three days, which he was certain Caraess hadn’t in months by his smell. He hoped he wasn’t as bad smelling as that.
“A Wobax is what I look like and a Lycan is something that can change from a humanoid form to that of a beast. I am always in this form and then simply get bigger when I use my abilities. I can use the abilities of a Lycan and that of a Witch/Warlock, but I rarely do. I haven’t had to do such things for a very long time.” The Wobax explained as they looked up and realized they were in a different part of the museum, but neither of them had noticed any change in the room or a barrier between. Krono turned and looked behind him to see the portion of the museum they had just come through, but there was nothing there but a white bricked wall. “Damn, this place.”
“I think it’s rather nice. Sure we can’t take a few of the shiny things?” The little dragon-like lizard asked, for the fiftieth time. They had come across a lot of different artifacts and though he could not read them, Krono knew warning signs when he saw them. These were definitely warning signs. Caraess didn’t have the same understanding of the situation.
“We can’t take any of these things. We are not even certain what they might be or what they might do. Can you use your book to discern what they are?” The Lycan was referring to the book of Kal Dier that Caraess had gained when he made a deal with Vincent Augomoto. Vincent was a Demon Lord and one of the most prominent, as well as one of the most viscous. Krono wasn’t certain of all the details, but he was certain that the book was bad news. It put Caraess into a coma when he first used it, of which he stayed for several weeks, but if it could help them now, he was willing to chance it. It wasn’t hard to carry around the little guy, regardless of his state.
“Naw, it gives spells, not actual language.” Caraess stated, his squeaky voice going even higher when he was annoyed. “So your saying that the Lycan is similar in look and stature to your build and stature. That is interesting. I was…Ohh, I like this one.”
“Don’t touch!” Krono snapped and lifted his arm slightly to ensure that Caraess didn’t leap for the item before them. It was a small bear, in fact there were five of them in cases fanning out from each other like a spear and the one in the front was the biggest. “That thing is creepy. Besides, it’s as big as you. Are those bears staring at us?”
“I didn’t say I was going to take it. Only that I liked what it looked like. It seems as if the eyes are watching us. Maybe we should poke them out and see if it can still watch us?” The little creep asked and Krono wasn’t certain if there was a joke or if the little creep’s mind had truly gone. “
“Just leave them alone. We need to get going. The others must be looking for us.” The Lycan tried to change the subject as he started to turn from the bears. Something about them caught his attention as well and he felt as though he were being watched. He looked deep into the eyes of the bear for a mere second and then looked away. Something felt strange, as if he were floating.
“Are you alright?” Caraess asked as he slapped Krono in the face a second time.
“Hey!” The Wobac shouted and nearly flicked the tiny body from his shoulder. He felt as if he had been hit a few times from the little vermin, but that could not be. “Do that again and you’re going into a bird cage.”
“I will not!” Caraess frowned deeply as his mane shifted into a bouncing ball of despair. The mere thought of being put into a cage was something he could not bear and the large mammoth he currently rode upon had placed him in one numerous times. Making the threat much less palpable. “Besides, you were just staring off into space for like a half hour. I know, I was stuck waiting on you for that entire time. If I hadn’t hit you, then there is no telling how long you would have drooled over that silly bear. It isn’t even cute.”
Something in the air seemed to get thick for a moment as the squeaky lizard’s voice resonated off the glass. It was as if they had just poked a large beast that was now watching them intently. Then the moment passed.
“I only looked at it for a few seconds.” Krono protested, trying to get his emotions back under check. He felt as though he were a mouse and a large cat had just entered the room. He wasn’t one to scare easily, but he wasn’t one to ignore gut feelings either.
“Nope. At least half an hour we have stood here. I began slapping you just a few minutes ago because I got bored.” Caraess sat down in a huff, his mane bouncing up and down around his chest. He looked like a small faye that was adorned by a great mane of some very small lion, but with a long dragon-like face and a slim lizard-like body. He would be comical if it weren’t for the ominous feeling that seemed to settle over the entire room.
“We really need to get out of here! This place gives me the creeps.” Krono turned to see if there was any direction that gave clue to an exit door. There was nothing, only the endless shelves and display cases that covered everything the eye could see. “Something is very strange here.”
The entire room seemed to be bathed in white and washed over with small strips of grey making the marble look as far as the eye could see. Only the items in the cases broke the wash of white and streaks of grey as the glass of the cases gleamed this way and that like large diamonds in a massive room full of diamonds. It was gorgeous, monotonous and at the same time, chilling. It wasn’t a place for mortals, at least not as far as Krono could tell. They needed to find a way out. And if this feeling was correct, they needed to do so very quickly and even more carefully.
“I’ll say, I keep hearing that tapping noise and it is getting on my nerves.” Caraess stated as if both of them could hear it.
“Tapping noise?” Krono asked as he perked how long ears up for the sounds.
“You don’t hear that?” His small face turned to Krono’s and he looked puzzled. “I have heard it since we entered here. It is actually getting annoying to me.”
“Then let’s exit here and find something better to do.” Krono was getting more and more nervous with every step as they had come across many things that looked very important, but also looked very evil. He wished that he could find an exit, but nothing seemed to be pointing toward anything, just going in circles, though they had not come back to where they started yet. “Let’s keep to the outside of these halls and see if that brings us somewhere.”
Krono ushered the two of them over to the far wall and started following to his left. He watched for any doors, traps, interesting “anythings” as they walked, but beyond the show cases, there was nothing for nearly twenty minutes. Then they came to a room that had something in the middle that looked promising. It was a lever with numbers. It looked like it might be an elevator, though he wasn’t certain if it could be. Or where it would lead.
“Think that’s an elevator?” Krono asked as he started slowly across the white marble floor toward the lever and the circle just to its left. There were many showcases on either side, but they had been adjusted into a semi-circle around the large circle with the lever in the middle. There was nothing on the floor and even the grey stripes stopped at the edge of the circle showing that there was significance.
“Sure.” Caraess agreed, though Krono figured he was simply saying sure because he had nothing else that he could do.
Ta-TINK!
The floor just below Krono’s left foot gave slightly and the sound was so imposing that Krono wanted to throw up. He had heard that sound before when they first entered the labyrinth and two of the guys that were following them had stepped on something similar. The sound gave an echoing, ominous reply from every wall for a brief moment before both men exploded. He hoped this would not be a repeat of that.
“We have a problem.” Krono explained as he slowly looked down. The floor below his foot was certainly a couple inches lower than the rest of the floor and his weight was keeping it in place. “We have a big problem.”
“Oh.” Caraess almost giggled. “I don’t see this as a we problem so much as a you problem. You see, I am not in a cage and I am not on that spot. So, I have no problem.”
“What?”
The little man flung himself off the shoulder of the Wobax and floated slowly to the floor. The ground was cold on his naked feet but it was manageable. He turned around and looked at the floor where Krono was standing.
“I can’t do anything for you. I could cast some spells, but all of them would knock you off of the pressure plate and then you would run the risk of killing both of us. I could try and hold the plate down while you step off of it, but we both know that won’t work. Or, as I have already surmised, I can cut my losses and move on to the elevator in the hopes that it will get me out of this labyrinth.”
“You would leave me here?”
“No. You would leave you here. I can’t move you.”
“You know what I mean. I can’t move my foot. So you are just going to abandon me?”
“Is there any way that you think I could help?”
“You have a book with every spell ever created. Can’t you use that to remove the pressure plate, or something like that?”
“And when I open said book, I may well be in a coma for the next few days. Think you can stand there in that position until I wake?” His little body bowed slightly as he turned and began floating toward the elevator. “I will work with the elevator to see if I can get it to work. If I can, then you may have a fighting chance by leaping to the middle of it and pressing the lever in one direction or another. Maybe there is something there that will remove the pressure plate completely. I don’t know. You don’t know. But we both know that there is nothing I can do to help you here.”
Krono had to admit that the little jerk was correct. Though he was “abandoning” a team-mate, it was for a good reason. There literally wasn’t anything that Caraess would be able to do directly. Maybe the elevator thing was the best bet. If that even was an elevator. The little stain was actually logical. Was Krono losing it or was this place just that messed up. In the end, Krono decided to simply let Caraess continue.
The little lizard floated over to the large metal arm that made up the lever and there were several markings on it. None of them could he read, but he was certain that at least one of them had to take them to the top floor. So, he grabbed the lever with his small arms and pulled with all his might. Then he pulled again. And again. And again and again…but nothing moved.
“Think you need me now?” Krono asked, still annoyed but seeing the irony in the moment.
“No! I got this. ARMS of MIGHT!” Caraess shouted and his arms grew in muscle as did his body. “ARMS of MIGHT!”
After a few seconds of repeating the same spell, Caraess’ little body was so bulked up that he didn’t seem able to move his arms at all. He reached forward and grabbed the lever once again and pulled with all his might. The lever moved slowly and then faster and then faster and then it was all the way to the up position from a halfway point where it had started. The sound of metal grating against metal started filling the room and it was so loud that they could not hear one another from its echoes.
Caraess watched as the floor gave way to a small pod that seemed to simply sprout from the ground below. It was easily big enough to accommodate both companions and had a sliding door on it as well. He looked it over and its build was rather sturdy. It was a perfect sphere as if a bubble floating between floor. The interior was made for at least four people to sit and was rather comfortable looking as the large cushions that rang around the sphere’s internal circumference in a semi-circle were made of Mammoth hide and the stuffed with some type of feather. There were pillows and everything was a Royal Blue, with red pin strips going around the edges of each cushion.
There were instructions carved into a metal plate just inside the sphere, but Caraess couldn’t read them. The lever was now just outside the sphere and there was another one within the sphere. The glass that made up the elevator was so thick that it caused parts of the interior to be warped when looking into the sphere. It was as safe as they could have hoped for.
“Think this will take the blast if that thing explodes?” Caraess asked and Krono nearly choked on his own air.
“Thought you were leaving?” Krono asked, now coming back to himself. “I think that it might if the explosion isn’t too bad. I can try and make it inside before the explosion, but there is a lot of ground to cover before I get into that thing.”
“I have a spell that will triple your speed. I will cast it on you and then you run to the elevator. We get on and shut the doors just before the explosion and the elevator will then take us up to where we were trying to go.” The little jerk was smiling a big toothy grin and Krono wanted to throw something at him. Something heavy and just big enough to….
“Alright. Cast your spell in just a second. I have my Totem that will help me make it through this. We are going to have to time this just…” Krono began, but was cut off before he could finish.
“SPEED OF AGRIOUS!” Caraess chanted three times in quick succession and then looked at Krono. “Run, it will wear off in just a second.”
“BITCH!” Krono yelled as he leapt forward and felt the very air around him split away and he pushed with all he had toward the elevator. Caraess was already getting inside and the door was slowly closing. Krono forced every muscle he had into the action as he heard the ground behind him start quaking and a slow explosion began funneling upward into the room from an anti-chamber below.
The elevator door was moving in slow motion as was the sound of the explosion behind him. Krono couldn’t help but turn and watch the explosion as he ran toward the elevator. The fire that would be the beginning of the explosion was slowly pouring into the room as a shock wave wavered outward and cracked a few of the showcases as its force tore through. He knew that he was going to feel that wave if he didn’t get into the elevator and thus he turned to ensure he was still headed in the right direction. He then realized he was slightly off course and was going to slam head first into the elevator side, rather than the door itself.
“What are you doing?” Caraess asked, but the question was so slow that it took a full thirty seconds of Krono’s time to hear the entire question.
Krono was nearing the elevator now, trying to correct his trajectory so as not to fly past it, but adjusting even the smallest of directions was proving more than just challenging, it was nearly impossible. He forced his right leg to push his body to the right slightly and the overcorrection was going to have him miss the elevator completely. He pushed back with his left and was going to miss the elevator on the opposing side. He tried to shoot smaller in the hopes of getting directly in the middle, but he was moving so quickly that the smallest movement was a massive course change. Suddenly he was at the elevator and then passed it and then at the far wall, and then in it. That is the last thing he remembered before seeing the elevator going down rather than up and then the room exploding in a brilliant flash of light. His body had slammed into the wall and he had tried to turn at the last minute. As a result, he buried himself into the wall a few feet, looking back at the scene behind him.
Krono’s head hurt and his body felt even worse, but the effects of the speed had finally worn off. Just in time for him to realize he had missed the elevator and lost his companion. It would be nearly three hundred years before he would learn what happened to Caraess. As for Krono, that is another story.
- ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
Caraess watched as the elevator doors began to close and tried to keep them open, but there was nothing to press within and there was no place to hold them other than the doors themselves and he was much too small for something like that.
“What are you doing?” Caraess asked as he watched the blur shoot straight for him, but waver from side to side.
Krono had overshot and went into the wall behind him, he realized as he heard the thud behind him and the shock wave of the explosion in front rocked the elevator. The door wavered a moment and Caraess was nearly knocked off his feet, but stepped back to steady himself. The outside of the elevator had taken the brunt of the blast and the door had closed just in time to keep him from taking any of the direct energy. There was no going back now as the room before him was engulfed in flames.
“Wait? Is this thing going down?” Caraess asked no one in particular. He had thought that he had pulled the lever up to go up, but apparently down was up in this place and to his own frustration, up was down, which was the direction he was now moving.
He turned and jumped up on the cushioned seat and plopped down in the middle. He just lost the last of his compatriots and he was feeling a bit low, but he wasn’t going to pass up a chance to ride anything in class, and this elevator was the epitome of class. The feathered cushions were perfect and the view was exquisite. He figured the only thing missing was a large glass of ale or wine. But he didn’t want to get too choosy.
Outside the window, he watched as the scenes moved by slowly. There was a beautiful waterfall in the distance as he came down a massive cavern that would be easily as large as some of the mountains above ground. He watched as the animals grew more and more fierce but also beautiful. Some were so amazing that it almost hurt to look at them as they dazzled in the phosphorescent glow of the moss that grew here. That glow bathed everything in either blue or green light depending on the floor and gave the same feeling as being underwater and looking through glass. It was amazing what they had never come across such delights by being on the surface. This Necrosis was far grander than he had ever believed and about ten times bigger.
The tube that the elevator took from through the expanse was laden with wards that kept each type of creature at bay. He watched as most of them simply ignored it, but many younger looking ones would approach before being admonished by their parents, or thrown smoking from touching the outer shields. Those shields were so powerful that he saw a Grand Mage Worm thorn five feet back when bumping against it unintentionally. The worm stood after a few seconds and shook its head, but was visibly hurt. Even with the entire team of seven adventurers, they would not take on a Mage worm and would have run screaming from a Grand Mage Worm. This technology and magic was so well combined that it shielded the elevator from anything that it may come across within the Necrosis and that said a lot.
It took nearly fifty minutes to reach whatever destination it was taking him to and he was certain they were in the middle of the probe as the elevator was moving rather quickly the entire time. He took a look around when the elevator stopped and watched as the door began to open. He was in a long cavern made of what looked like black marble. He was hovering over the ground, but could feel the heat emanating from below him. He started to sweat.
“Anyone here?” He asked as he moved down the corridor. No one answered. He saw doors on either side, but noticed that there were magic ward locks before them, so he dared not try. He used Blue magic, of which he was imbued to the soul, but he could use other magics as well at this point because of the book. However, he wasn’t very good with those magics and these locks were of Red. He didn’t want to mix the two colors and see the disastrous outcome and he didn’t want to open the book for the same reason.
He continued for nearly two hours, now exhausted and using his magic to create food and water to keep his belly full and his body cool. He wanted to conserve as much of his pools of magic as he could because he wasn’t sure he could replenish them down here. Pools of Magic were not truly a pool, but the amount of mana a welder could hold within themselves before needing to recharge. When learning magic, it is easier to speak of these as a pool and as such visualize them the same. This way a person would realize that they are getting close to their limit when the pool is nearly gone. Some people could hold massive amounts of mana through a given day, and others only a thimbleful. Either way, that limit was a hard one and breaking it could actually lead to ones death. When the mana of a person is depleted, they then start to use their own Soulmere. If the Soulmere is depleted, then they begin using their life. Once that is gone they are gone. Soulmere regenerates each day like mana and can be tapped for mana, but most won’t do it because if Soulmere is used beyond its limit, whatever is used will not regenerate the following day and leaves the person weaker.
“I think that you are going to have no choice but to hand over the gems.” A voice from ahead of the little lizard came from the near pitch darkness. The only light glowed from the top and bottom of the cave and illuminated only a few feet in front of him, but he could see a bit further than that using his blue magic eyes. He had another vision, which he called Para-rex vision, but it would light up the entire cavern for a mile and give away his position. He had thought of using it a few times, but wasn’t certain what dwelled in these caves.
“The gems are mine and you will not take them. I have control here, not you. I am going to bring him forth and we are going to control him.” Another voice explained.
Careass figured it would be a good idea to keep them from seeing him before he knew if they were friend or foe, so he cast a cloak spell that he had learned from the book months before. He wasn’t certain how much mana these spells were consuming, but he knew when his soulmere fell and as such would know when his pool was drained. Until that happened he would try and conserve but use the spells as he saw fit.
The spell wrapped around him and felt much like a mud bath, but not a delightful one. More like he had been thrown in the mud and rolled through it. Brown Magic always felt dirty to him, as if it were wrong or disgusting. He didn’t mind using it, he just felt like a shower afterward. His body quickly vanished from visible sight and he noticed that his breathing and movements were masked as well. He moved closer to the side corridor where he had heard them.
“We can sell these and live like kings! Why do we need to summon this thing?” They were a pair of Nombians, one was a warrior with weapons all over his body. Two swords, one long and one short, several daggers and three knives, as well as a large quarter staff. The second was a magic user of some sort, but his rank and magic type were concealed within his large cloak.
“We are not summoning it. It is being summoned here, within the next few minutes. If we get to it before it can completely manifest on this plane, we can turn it into our slave.” The magic user pulled out one of the gems and was using blue magic to assess its cut and strength. Careass had seen this done countless times before, but wasn’t certain where he had seen it.
“Again, why would we need that?” The warrior was growing impatient and his face showed his annoyance. He was thinking only of their worth and not of any power.
“Do you not realize what a Primordial can do?” The magic user countered as he put that gem away and pulled another one, much larger than the emerald he had just put back.
“Yes, yes.” The warrior snapped and reached for the stone. The magic user quickly pulled back and pushed the warrior away. They were going to get into a fight if this continued and it might be a good opportunity to take some of those precious stones off their hands. He may be lost, but he wasn’t going to overlook riches.
Careass was nearly on top of them at this point and neither of them could see him, which was good. They couldn’t hear him breathing either, which was also good as he was very tired from all this floating, his mana was slowly being depleted and he didn’t feel as though he were getting anywhere. Though, he would find some way to carry those stones if he had the chance.
“Then you know that with a Primordial on our side, we could rule half this probe without much issue. We could be kings that could never be kicked from our thrones. We could even take over Cross Roads. Chris wouldn’t be able to take on a Primordial.” The magic user was now going through each of the stones and examining them as he pointed to the spot where the Primordial was supposed to appear.
Careass looked and there was nothing there but a pile of bones, some type of metals, lots of metals. There was a pile of rock and some type of sand as well. A massive amount of different materials all set in a large pile.
“Wait, one of those things can take on a Melaney?” The warrior nearly gasped at the idea. Careass wasn’t certain what they were talking about with the idea of a Primordial or whatever they had said, but he did understand the idea of something being able to take on a Melaney that wasn’t a Melaney. He had thought there wasn’t such a thing lower than a Suprema. This was actually something that might be worth more than those gems, though he was still going to try and get the gems. Brik is Brik afterall.
“With these six gems, we can place one in the Primordial as he rises, and each of us swallow one and take control of that damn thing. Control so well that we can create our own society where we rule and everyone else grovels at our feet.” The magic user explained as he put the stones away and looked over at the spot. He was waiting on a particular moment, but there was no indication of when that might be.
Careass didn’t have the foggiest clue what they were on about, but he figured as long as the man had placed the stones back in the pouch, then it was prime time to relieve him of them. He reached into the pouch as the magic user reached back and grabbed Careass directly around his body and pulled him forward in his left hand. Careass had no way of fighting back directly, but was about to use a magic spell, but which one.
“Now lets do this before we miss our chance.” The magic user announced as he throw Careass at the pile of bones, metal and materials. Careass felt weightless for a second and then shot through the air like a bullet. The magic user had thought he had grabbed a stone and since Careass’ body was hard on the outer parts, minus his mane, there was no way to know he had made a mistake.
“Agreed!” The warrior exclaimed as he reached into the same pouch and started throwing the stones at the same point.
“Crap! It’s already begun. We have to swallow these two gems before! Wait, what are you doing?” The magic user yelled as the warrior threw the last gem at the pile. Being much slower, the magic Nombian had no idea that the warrior had even thrown the first gem, much less the rest of them. He had been focused on getting the gems in the right place from where he stood, so much so that he noticed the first gem never seemed to land, but rather floated just before hitting the pile. The abrupt change in motion made the magic user think that something was wrong, but then he realized that it must have started and they had mere seconds to finish the ritual and swallow the other two gems.
“Augomites!” The warrior yelled as he drew his two swords. He turned toward the two men and leveled his weapons. They had entered through a side tunnel that was almost invisible where the Nombians stood and as such it seemed as though they simply appeared out of nowhere. “Kill them!”
“No, we can’t! We will miss our chance.” The magic user yelled as he looked at the scene before him. The pile of materials was there with something hovering just atop it and the gems that were thrown went directly at the thing that was now floating, as the warrior had trained his throws to be in the same places as the magic user’s first throw.
The first stone that had been thrown by the warrior had whizzed past Careass’ head and he turned to yell at them since he had just expended a great deal of energy and mana to stop himself from actually hitting the pile of materials. As he turned he saw something coming at him in at a great speed and was going to defend it, but it was too late. The stone slammed hard into his open mouth and he felt as though it broke a couple of his teeth. He flew back into the metal as the second stone nailed the first stone and shoved it down his throat. The third stone nailed the second stone and pushed it into his throat. He moved to his left, gasping for air as a fourth stone pinged off of the metal where his head had just been. He looked toward the location it was being thrown from and saw two more stone whizzing his way. He put up a shield of pure mana to stop them but they flew straight threw it the first nailed him in the mouth, while the second forced the first down into his stomach and that was when he blacked out.
- ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
Careass woke a day later, covered in blood and gore. He wasn’t certain where he was or how he had gotten covered, but he was certain that it stank to high heaven. He looked around the cavern that he now lay in and realized two things. One, he was nearly four feet tall, which was disconcerting and interesting at the same time. And two, he was glowing with power in a body that was not his own.
“What the heck happened?” Careass asked as he stood to his feet. He looked down and around the room, gauging his vantage point on his own steam and enjoying the ability to stand this high. The gore came because there were twenty two dead bodies, all splattered around the room and over everything. He tried to make out any individual person, but there was nothing he could make out to discern even the slightest of features.
The fight had apparently raged after he was knocked out and whatever the fight was over was now decided. There was nothing else in the room, the great pile of materials were gone and there was a massive hole in the roof. The hole had light at it’s far end, but for the most part came down directly through the rock and did not continue through the floor, as if it had come down from the heavens. Careass looked around and noticed that there were no gems laying around either.
“Who stole my gems? Damn it!” Careass shouted, only then realizing his voice was no longer squeaky, but rather thick, low and harmonious. He cleared his throat and sang out a couple times to see if he could change it, but this was most definitely his voice at this time. He then noticed that the book of Kal Dier was floating to his left, opened and shinning. He flinched. “Why..why are you opened?”
There was no answer from the book, but after a couple moments of deciding if he would pee himself or flip through the book, Careass decided he would probably do both. He thumbed through the book and came across several powerful spells, all of which he could now read. He also felt strange as he touched the book as he actually understood the spells that he was reading. Then he came to a realization that would forever change him.
“This book likes me.” Careass stated as he continued through the cavers of the Necrosis, trying desperately to find a way back to the surface with his friends. He knew that he had plenty of time, because this time period wasn’t his own and they had come back through time over three centuries, or weeks, or whatever, he simply knew that he had plenty of time to find his way out.
