Hypnosis

Those that train in this ability are not considered very powerful, but beware of their abilities. A Master Hypnotist can overcome many disadvantages that others fall prey to and most of their own as well. They can use their abilities to augment the powers of others and therefore make them, permanently more powerful. (This takes characters completely believing in the power of the Hypnotist.)

Assassins, ninja and the like all master this as one of their first abilities on their way to becoming as powerful as they are considered to be. The Koltu, the biggest and most feared assassin society on the probe, will train their members in Hypnosis before they will allow them to even hold a weapon.

The Hypnotist can use their abilities on others to make them “believe”, for short periods of time, whatever the Hypnotist chooses. The difference in Will power will make the difference in belief. They Master Hypnotist can actually augment their own Will Power to a level to be far greater than that of virtually any adversary using certain breathing tricks and techniques. This will only last for a short time but has been known to work on even Gods.

A Hypnotist has a larger degree of defense against illusions and as such can actually overcome even some of the strongest ones, depending on their current status and rank. A Master will be affected by only the most concrete of illusions and the highest master of Hypnosis known thus far has been able to avoid even the illusions of the Lusea (The most powerful of illusionists in all reality, that is a mortal being. The Lusea is a small beast that lives usually within caves or underground dwellings and tries to repulse enemies with their illusions. Their illusions are so powerful that one created a city once and until his death the people lived in the city as if it were real. Twenty years passed and the Lusea died, with him the illusions died as well and the entire city vanished, leaving the inhabitants confused and scared.) (See Lusea)

The Hypnotist will train for a few years on getting the basics and then will usually move off to other subjects while continuing their training with Hypnosis. (This is one of the only abilities that will allow a person to learn more than one ability at a time without having Cross Training. See Cross Training.) The Hypnotist would have to reach a level of 1/2 the levels needed for Mastery before they could swap to another field of study.

The Hypnotist will also use charms, trinkets, and the like to “distract” their victim for long enough so that they can hypnotize them. Some have been able to learn tricks that allow them to simply touch a victim into a trance. Others have learned to use light to do the same thing. The most powerful use their voices to put people in trances and these are the ones that everyone is afraid of, as they can use simply their voice to place a person into a trance and then make them do their bidding. This is not overcoming the will of the victim, but side stepping it in a strange way. Once in the trance, any of the above hypnotists can then make the person believe whatever they choose and if the will is strong enough, the victim will have to use save roll after save roll to finally get free of the trance and no longer believe what they are told.

Be aware, hypnotists can rarely be lied to. Some of the more powerful of the hypnotists have learned to read people so well that they can spot a lie with ease and some have been able to “hear” the lie as it is being spoken. They are often used in court systems to ensure that the witnesses are not telling lies and as such are not welcome in many societal norms.
