Quipians

Picture of the Race

Summary of Race

A mysterious race that came from the Dark Side of the Probe. The Dark Side is always covered in night and most of the races that come from their are so viscous and vile that they can’t be considered civilized races and thus are considered beasts of one sort or another. The Quipian skirt that line so finely that some of their race are considered beasts. Those that come across to the light side are capable of speech, though using telepathy rather than physical speech of any type. This is due to the fact that they don’t have an actual mouth.

The Quipian doesn’t feed like normal mortals. They have no nostrils either, rending gaseous attacks completely moot. They have, however, small pours in their necks where they can pull in nutrients from drinks, but they don’t have to use these as they actually pull in their nutrients from the manna around them. When they are near something that has manna of any sort, their pours pull in the manna and they consume it much like other mortals would consume food. However, this is something that they are very careful about in that they keep most of the bodies covered at all times due to the fact that they can’t stop the influx of manna and some manna is damaging to them. Due to this simple fact, they often wear complete body suites.

The Quipian are great fighters and extremely good tracking on any terrain. They don’t work very well with other races, but can get along for short periods. When in a party for long periods, the Quipian will seclude themselves any chance they have. Most Quipians have little to no morals of any sort, and most have no codes that they live by. Due to this, they are rarely taken in with other companions.

Racial Traits

Excellent Navigation: With their ability to always know true north, the Quipians can’t get lost in any part of the probe. Due to this, even abilities that would render other lost will not work against the Quipian. (+2 Understand)

Indifference: Quipians have seen many things in their lives and most of them are very scary or disgusting due to spending time on the Dark side of the Probe. Due to this they are very hard to shock and amaze. They have been known to walk into a room with a thousand mage worms and simply respond, “This may take a while.” Even in certain death, they show little to no shock or amazement. (+10 Shock, +10 Fear)

Quipian Task Masking: The Quipian can learn fighting skills extremely quickly and master them nearly as fast. They have an ability to “read” the movements of others and replicate those movements. This allows them to learn many things very quickly, but they use it for fighting more than anything else. Most Quipians will have a large list of abilities that they have learned using this ability, but often will not use them in the company of others as they all wish to keep others from knowing all of their talents. Using this ability, however, is costly and they use it only when they have the need. (Costs 50 Stamina per use, Costs 20 Mg. Pts. Per use, Costs 20 Will Pts. Per use. +30 Understand for 10 rounds. + 20 Aware for 10 rounds, + 5 Agility for 10 rounds)

Social Structure

They have a social structure on the dark side of the probe, but none have seen it other than the Quipians and they aren’t talking about it at all. On the light side, they live singular lives with little to no interactions with their own kind. Often if a fight comes down to the two Quipians in a party, the two will simply walk away from each other and leave their respective parties. Only twice in recorded history did two of them go head to head against their own kind and in both cases, they killed each other.

Technology

The Quipians aren’t opposed to using technology, however, they often bring their own and will not use other races tech due to their belief that it is inferior to their own.  Oddly, this is usually the case. Quipians will not share their tech with any other race and will not use other races tech unless they see it as more useful than their own, or if they have lost their own in some way or another.

The Quipian usually carries many tech based gadgets and will sometimes make a trek back to the Quipian lands to pickup more before returning to the light side of the probe. These gadgets are highly advanced tech that can be very powerful, but are mostly used for tracking, living, etc. rather than actual weapons. Most Quipians rely on their Double Edged Saw Blades or other Quipian weapons rather than lowering themselves to using technology to take down their prey.

Religion

It is known that The Quipian do pray to some unseen Supre Mald, but not much is known of him. They often only mention him as “The Fox” and warn others not to make fun of their deity or they may be smitten. Any ceremonies or other religious tells from their society are so well hidden that others haven’t gained the knowledge of their Religion at this time.

It is known, however, that the Gen, Jeni, Faye and many other supernatural beings will not work with, or against a Quipian for some reason or another and many believe this is due to whatever deity they serve directly.

Base Persona

Due to their upbringing and nature the Quipian are always Sociopathic (16). No need for a role of the die.

Interesting Racial Things

Many Quipians exhibit abilities of control over darkness. These abilities will only manifest in the absence of light and only for a handful of Quipians, but with them the player is incredible in the darkness. (Roll 1d6 for the player and the Player rolls 1 or a 6, then they go to the chart. 1 will get them 1 ability while 6 will get them 2 abilities. This can only be done once per game.

If your character gains an ability, use this chart for which ability. See the Glossary for what the ability actually does.
Roll 1d6

  1. Shadow Hand
  2. Shadow speech
  3. Form Shadows
  4. Shade Strength
  5. Shade Stealth
  6. Shadow Shift.)
Quipians are great trackers due to the fact that they can “smell” auras from others and the smell is so distinct that they can follow it for miles without fail. The “smell” is described more as a pulling toward the aura than an actual smelling of the aura. Due to this, they can track a person through great crowds without need of seeing them directly. Through forests the same way. However, the aura can be masked using magic or abilities, but most don’t have the type of talents it would take to do the masking. Thus, Stealth creatures that have been on the field for more than two rounds can’t use their stealth against the Quipian and it gives the Quipian a citational awareness so that sneaking up on them in virtually impossible. Only the Rattle, who give off little aura, or other races similar can keep the Quipian from finding them directly or showing their location while in a battle (+4 Aware.)
