Pyriam

Picture of the Race

Summary of Race

A race of ancient giants that once ruled most of Probe One simply through their gigantic size, but now are slaves to one race or another due to their in ability to lead themselves. Due to a mishap that happened shortly before the Great Cataclysm, the Pyriam race was shunted on intellectual growth due to an attack from a Gen. The Gen was controlled by someone that was trying to get through ancient ruins that the Pyriam were squatting on. A simple misspeak and the entire race was affected. Now, the great giants roam the probe in search of their lost intellect but often find themselves simply roaming in circles.

Those that are not slaves to another race, are often found roaming with little hope of building lives for themselves. They have the mentality of a nine year old and the understanding of a six year old. Most don’t speak much and when they do the things that come out will usually get them into trouble.

They are not short on brute force, however, being stronger than even the Baldwin when they are peak form and they are nearly as durable as the Dalim. That mixed with the fact that they can actually see the flow lines of power, makes them capable to becoming enormously powerful. If not for the barrier in their brains, they might actually control most, if not all, of the probe.

Racial Traits

Armored Hide: Pyriam have extremely hard skin that is nearly as hard as rock. Their hide is strong enough to take a blast from a canon at point blank range without even bending or scratching (+22 Def., +12 At.).

Muscle Memory: A Pyriam that has been in captivity for thirty years can come out of captivity, where they were held in a cell the entire time and it will take them less than fifteen days for their muscles to be returned to their peak status. All Pyriam are similar in this regard and once they have reached maturity, it is nearly impossible to take their strength from them. This muscle memory also works on other parts of their body as well, in that any spell, ability, etc. that is placed upon the Pyriam will last 1/2 of its effect time regardless of its ability. Any ability, etc. that is placed on the Pyriam that would last only one round is negated before it takes effect. (+10 Def., +10 At., +10 Mg. Def.)

Pyriam Mental Defense: The only race on the Probe with this ability, the Pyriam can actually negate all mental attacks thrown at them as long as they concentrate. This is not an easy task for the Pyriam as they don’t have a track record of concentration. However, if trained correctly, they can negate all mental abilities in a given area. Even Supernatural Mental attacks are negated in this way, which is why Vampires and the like, will kill the Pyriam rather than take them as slaves. (+10 Men. Def., +2 Mg. Def.)

Social Structure

Pyriam have little to no Social structure. They are able to mate and have children due to a season of “Push” that causes them to react similar to cats in heat. When the female is fertile, a smell of sweet nectar like that of Honey Suckle will hit the air and be noticeable for up to ten miles from the point of origin by all races, though only slightly,  but the smell is so alluring to the male Pyriam that they can not ignore it. Any that catch the aroma are pulled to its epicenter with such a drive that they may not even know it is happening. The mating season lasts for one month and only happens twice a decade. However, each of the Pyriam females will have two children for every male they encountered during the time of their “Push”. This can have a single female give birth to up to twenty children at a time. The offspring of a Pyriam are all but indestructible until their fifth birthday, causing most if not all of the offspring to survive no matter where they are born. Since the children are born within six months of impregnation, the Pyriam are often easily replenished when they start getting close to extinction.

Beyond the “Push”, the Pyriam haven’t had a since of Society since the Great Cataclysm.

Technology

Pyriam are unable to understand most, if not all, Technology of any sort. Even if trained in it, when they wake the next morning they will no longer remember the technology they have learned. It is frustrating for them and for those that are using them as slaves.

Oddly, though, they do have the ability to understand and remember, rudimentary technologies, such as pullies, winches and the like.  They also understand swords, and shields, but prefer to use large boulders, tree limbs, or whole trees as weapons.

Religion

Pyriam are prone to change religion for whomever is near them. They have no direct religion and no God, Mald, Supre Mald or the like claim them directly. It is said that they were placed on the probe simply to remove a single threat and turned out thriving so the being that placed them simply abandoned them.

Base Persona

They have no base persona, but can not move beyond the neutral bases of the spectrum. They can move from Fair to Unemotional.

Interesting Racial Things

Due to the magic that was used on the Pyriam to cause the effects of their mind, they can not be harmed directly, or targeted directly, with Red Magic. For some reason, the Red Magic, will simply negate when used on the Pyriam. All magical effects will be negated, but the physical parts and energy, will still deal their damage.

Pyriam are considered camellias in their actions. This is due to the fact that they will immolate whomever they are around, trying to gain their approval. Due to this, many of the Pyriam will act as though they hate, or dislike something simply because of those they are around.

Pyriam are considered “God-Less” but often when they actually pray to one God or another, their prayers are actually answered. This is rare, but so far every recorded prayer from a Pyriam has been answered. Most see this as nothing but Karma, but some try to use this as a means to get what they want from the race. Often, this ends up not working out for the one trying to manipulate the Pyriam (Prayer Approval 2, +2 Luck).
