These bird men are extremely good fighters and very good with magic as well. They have keen eyesight and the ability to move very quickly as they are very light. However, they have near hollow bones so their fighting styles allow them to avoid a hit, or defect it rather than taking damage directly. In this respect they are more martial arts than boxing style fighters. They will use projectile weapons before getting up close and personal with anyone and are extremely good with it as they can be accurate up to a mile away without a scope of any sort. (That doesn’t mean that their weapons will be that accurate at that distance, just that their eyes are that good.)
The Paragrim are a pompous race that believe they are the “Chose People” of all the gods. Due to this they can come off rude, arrogant and down right mean much of the time. It makes being friendly with them somewhat of a problem for other races. However, they are some of the most loyal of races because of things that happened in their past and now they are all raised to believe that breaking ones word of honor is akin to pissing on their gods, which none of them would do.

Their society is built around the idea that their Emthada, monarch, is a god and that he decides everything for their country. Each line of Emthada go through a trial and once they have succeeded this trial, they ascend to the throne. No one knows when the new Emthada will be crowned and sometimes this happens while there is still a sitting Emthada. Should this happen, the two of them will fight for supremacy and the winner will be Emthada as the loser will be executed. It is a harsh land with much backstabbing and the politics of the land are often more brutal than some of the wars that have been fought. Due to this, the political parties will shift back and forth, trying to get as much of the Emthadas attention as possible. At no point in history has the political parties ever gone after the Emthada save for once. In that moment a curse was set on those that followed the assassins and they were excommunicated from the church of the Hicinth. This is the supreme church of the land and the Emthada is the head of the church. Being excommunicated from this church meant that the party would be unwelcome in any of the Paragrim societies across the lands and that the party would be unable to so much as buy a loaf of bread, much less gain funds to fight other party members.
The party left and a war broke out that left the Emthada of the time dead, stabbed in the back by his own brother. Thus the excommunication and the leaving of the entire party. (The brother that did the stabbing was not picked as a Emthada by the gods and as such had no claim to the throne, but was trying to make it look like he was picked and his brother was a trader. Unfortunately he did all of this under the guise of being part of the Koltu and made the assassination look like one of theirs. This did not sit will with that faction and the truth shortly came out.) The entire party was shunned and left to build their own society in Palama where they settled because the barren desert was the only place they were welcome. Their Emthada, the brother that had killed the Emthada of the Paragrim society, was promptly killed by the Koltu for staging one of their hits and the land went into civil war (See Rile Tera).
There is a law of the land that is handed down to the high courts known as the Flock. The Flock is made up of twenty nobles that hold land in or near the capital of Fluthonshi. Any that lose their land will also lose their standing within the Flock. Members of the Flock will answer only to the Emthada and no other laws can touch them. Many times these twenty nobles have sided against the Emthada only to be put in their place due to the safe guards that are there for the Emthada. Should they try anything, the laws dictate that their lands will be stripped of them and they will be shunned from society. Most have found ways around this and kept their lands in the end, only to have them stripped later or killed. It is a high stakes game, but one that the Emthada has always won, one way or another. Save for the one time with the backstabbing brother.
The Paragrim society is built around Hodunic Magic, or Brown Magic. The use of this magic means that most of the society will have shortened lives, but it also means that the magics that are used to tie their society together are extremely powerful. The Emthada is endowed with Blue Magic during a ceremony that only the priests of Hicinth know and keep extremely secret from the outside world. During this ceremony the Emthada is endowed with Blue Magic and then with Brown, making them near masters within the course of a day. That mixed with a few other things that the priests do make the Emthada a formidable foe on his own, but the Emthada brings forth three guardians that go through similar ceremonies to gain power over Brown, Blue and sometimes Black Magics. A side effect of their ceremonies is that they often turn completely black from head to toe. They also will lose their ability to fly long distances, but their bones are no longer hollow, making them able to take direct damage as easily as most of the other races.
The Paragrim currently rule over only the Isle of the Apple and have not made a reach for other lands in nearly three hundred years. The only wars they get into these days are with the Rile Tera due to the ages long feud over an Emthada long dead. Their society is much more in depth than most know, but only by traveling there would anyone find out, for writing about the inner workings of the Isle are banned for anyone that may come to their shores and anyone born there.
Paragrim use whatever technology they can find and try to make it their own. Many of them will actually carry different types of weapons on them that are technologically based even if they don’t know how to use them, simply for the ability to learn. They will steal tech from any other race that they can and try to reverse engineer it to the best of their abilities. For this reason, they have a hand in most of the technologies across the land.
Paragrim religion revolves around the Emthada being the embodiment of their god, but the Hicinth are the keepers of the true faith. Their mission is to ensure that the Emthada keeps on the path that their Supre Mald wishes of them while still being a god among mortals. Due to fighting in the distant past, the church has all but fallen to the side and the people follow the Emthada as their direct god. That is until recent times when the stirrings of the church have started rearing their holy heads once more and trying to take back the near absolute power they once had.
Base Persona for the Paragrim is Callous (15)
It is a well known fact that Lothan started the first international slave trade and caused a lot of the infighting among races and factions that still rage today. During his leadership, those that were conquered in battle were brought back to the Isle of the Apple to the great city of Fluthonshi and sold to their enemies. Rindagar Bometh had influenced nearly every corner of the probe when he was the Emthada and had brought peace to many of the lands. He had brought their religion to the lands and the church of Hicinth had become the most powerful church anywhere. Now, however, Hicinth is nothing more than a run down church that only serves the few people that live on the Isle of the Apple. Its teachings are all but outlawed in many lands. Lothan ruined not only his fathers plans of the nations, but the church his father put together as well. Due to this, Rindagar’s death is a national holiday for the Paragrim and Lothan’s birth and death are remembered as a day of regret. No holidays can be placed in or near those two days.
The Paragrim went on to be one of the most powerful races in the land for a time of about a thousand years before Rindagar Bometh died. Once his death passed, the new Emthada, Lothan Bometh, the son of Rindagar, gained control and changed the way things were run. Under his new management of their society, the Paragrim suffered a thousand years of broken promises and war against enemies that had once been allies. The Melaney wars put an end to this and Lothan, as he sided with the Emperor and met Samual Melaney in battle outside of Shenor. Samual and Lothan fought directly for twenty minutes before Samual drove his sword through the Emthada chest. The rest of the Paragrim present were slaughtered and the society suffered its greatest loss. After the war was over, they had lost nearly half their lands and retreated their people to the Isle of the Apple.
Today, there once great society can be seen in ruins on nearly every continent. Even the lands of Zerror suffered at the hands of the Paragrim for a time. Now, the Paragrim are shunned by many societies and will actually be attacked on site by certain races due to their mistreatment of virtually everyone.
Oh Emthada, Lord on High!
Power so Great!
To the battle we march.
Bring us this war and let our mettle be tested.
We will shine with your eyes refelected.
We will all fight so Harsh!
For their death is their fate!
We will win like in years gone by!
